About North-Eastern Hill University
Established in 1973 by an Act of the Indian Parliament, the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) is a prominent institution in Shillong, India.
It stands as a central institution for promoting education and research in the northeastern region of India. The dual-campus structure in Meghalaya,
with locations in both Shillong and Tura, enables the university to cater to a broader base of students and researchers, fostering regional development and accessibility to education.
The university's objectives, as delineated in the NEHU Act of 1973, underline it’s role in the propagation and progression of knowledge through the provision of instructional and
research amenities in various fields; with particular emphasis on fostering the enhancement of social and economic conditions and the well-being of the communities residing in the hilly
regions of the North-eastern area, while focusing on intellectual, academic, and cultural development.
